About the Cause Champions
#LetsPoolIn is a collaborative effort led by Swimming Matters and supported by trusted stakeholders in the aquatic community including Olympians, Paralympians, Arjuna awardees and Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India).
About the Cause
The months from March to June are the busiest months for most businesses in the aquatic industry, with summer camps contributing to over 60% of their annual earnings that sustains them through the rest of the year. However, the pandemic and continued lockdowns have dealt a cruel blow to the lives and livelihoods of millions dependent on the aquatic industry, including swim teachers, swim coaches, lifeguards and maintenance staff.
Many of them have lost their jobs, and some have run out of business. A lot of them are single breadwinners of the family, some are even going through personal, health or environmental crises and a few are just starting out in their careers. With lockdowns coming at this crucial time, and no respite at sight, they are staring at a bleak future.
#LetsPoolIn aims to raise Rs 10,00,000 to support 100 of the most vulnerable people in the Indian aquatics industry during this difficult time with a one-time financial grant.
Intended Beneficiaries
Through this initiative, we are looking to support 100 swim teachers, swim coaches, lifeguards, housekeeping, administrative and maintenance staff who are in dire need currently. We are aiming to raise Rs. 10 Lakhs so that a one-time grant of Rs. 10,000 can be provided to each individual. Each grant will go a long in way in supporting and sustaining the families of these people who have devoted their life to swimming. The money will be directly deposited in each person’s bank account.
We have identified beneficiaries through a trusted network of Olympians, Arjuna Awardees, and other members of the swimming community. The Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India), is also aiding us in identifying people to support. They will identify lifeguards who have been severely impacted by the pandemic.
Come join our team and help us support people who play in an integral role in Indian swimming and other aquatic sports. #LetsPoolIn and #PlayforIndia.
